William E. Fredenburg

CLIFTON SPRINGS – William E. Fredenburg passed away on Thursday (June 14, 2018) in Clifton Springs, N.Y., at the age of 90.

Friends may call from 1 – 2 p.m. on June 19th at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Bellona, N.Y. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to: American Legion Post #396, 1115 Lochland Road, Geneva, N.Y. 14456.

Bill was born April 12, 1928 in Binghamton, N.Y, the son of Charles W. Fredenburg and Winnie C. (Newlander) Fredenburg. Bill graduated from Moravia High School in 1945, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served at Fort Knox, Ky. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in 1947, Bill returned to the Finger Lakes region. He started a family, earned a business degree, and began a 20-year career with RT French Co. Multiple promotions meant a family move, and a new adventure in N.Y., Florida, and Michigan. In 1973, Bill moved back to N.Y., and ultimately began a new 17-year career as a Financial Advisor with IDS (which became American Express Financial Advisors). He was a member of Penn Yan Alcoholics Anonymous, and the American Legion, where he was Past-Chaplain.

Bill loved fishing and golfing, riding his lawnmower, traveling with family and friends, or joking around with just about anyone. Like the rest of the family, he enjoyed summertime at the cottage on Owasco Lake, often causing trouble with his practical-joking, partner-in-crime, Uncle Earle. He also didn’t mind the spotlight at holiday and Super Bowl get-togethers.

Bill is survived by his wife of 34 years, Shirley (Christensen-Hansen) Fredenburg of Clifton Springs; sons, Dale Fredenburg of Kansas City, Mo., and Richard (Patricia) Fredenburg of Seneca Falls; daughter, Sandra Boothe; stepsons, Craig Hansen of Seattle, Wash., and Lynn Hansen of Geneva; as well as many nieces and nephews. Also, granddaughters and grandsons, Denice (Peter) Romano (children Taylor and Kendall), Diana (Terry) O’Leary (children Samantha Moses, Sydney, Connor, and Colin), Jeremy Fredenburg, Sr. (children Jeremy, Jr. and Aleasha), Rachel (Daniel) Bowser, and Brian (Evie) Fredenburg. And Bill had lived to become a great-great-grandfather with the addition of Lincoln Moses this year.

Bill is preceded in death by his first wife, Nona Fredenburg; his daughter, Sandra Boothe; brother, Richard Fredenburg; and very close friend, Barbara Sheehan.
