Obituary

Stanley- Rush S. “Buzz” Pierce, Jr., age 76, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022 holding the hand of his beloved wife.

Buzz was born May 22, 1945 to the late Rush S. Pierce, Sr. and Lucy Wood Pierce in Vestal, NY.

Buzz is survived by his wife of 34 years, Valerie; three daughters, Veronica (Donald) Mortensen, Vanessa (Matthew) Pierce-Willis and Emily (Stuart) Horstman; one dear grandson, Sawyer Horstman; 3 brothers, Curtis (Beatrice) Pierce, James (Margaret) Pierce and Dennis (Coral) Pierce; two sisters, Diane (Terry) Szlucha, Marcia Root, beloved sister-in-law Julie Button, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Phyllis (Lyle) Sherwood, Geraldine (Don) Hunsinger, and Beverly (Gene) Allis, and his in laws, Ron and Betty Heusler.

Buzz had many career “lives” including a stint in the army, running a bar, over two decades as an owner/operator long haul truck driver, and 30 years as a loyal employee at Wadhams Enterprises in Phelps before retiring in 2019. He then happily took on the role as “security consultant” at his wife’s store, Quilty Pleasures, in Geneva.

He was never happier than when he was mowing his large, beautiful lawn, eating snacks in front of the TV, watching westerns (John Wayne!!), eating ice cream with his family (especially Sawyer), or laughing and adventuring with Val. He loved going for long drives to “see what there is to see”, people watching, and day trips around the finger lakes. His family will dearly miss his quick wit and sense of humor, especially his “dad-isms”. His lighthearted spirit and fierce love for family were there until the very end. Buzz’s proudest achievement was his three daughters.

His family extends gratitude and appreciation to all those who offered support throughout this past year. Buzz would love nothing more than if everyone would give their loved ones and extra hug today in his honor.

There will be a private burial and a celebration of his life to take place on his birthday this spring. Burial will be in Number Nine Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ontario County Humane Society- Happy Tails in Buzz’s memory.
