Obituary

Stanley- Robert L. Hunt, age 83, passed away Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at his home, after a long illness.

Friends may call Wednesday (Sept. 6th) from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday (Sept. 7th) at 10 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 18 Snell Rd., Geneva, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marcus Whitman Sports Hall of Fame, 4100 Baldwin Rd., Rushville, NY 14454; or the Stanley-Hall-Gorham Ambulance, P.O. Box 41, Gorham, NY 14461.

Bob was born June 13, 1934 in Stanley, NY, the son of the late Herbert and Madeline Hunt. He married Shirley Goodall on August 26, 1961.

Bob worked at Marcus Whitman Central School for 31 years. He was in charge of maintenance of the pool. After he retired from Marcus Whitman, he worked at Rush Machinery for 12 years. In 2011 Bob was inducted into the Marcus Whitman Athletic Hall of Fame.

He was in scouting for 35 years, with Troop 63 in Gorham. While in scouting, he received the “Silver Beaver Award” and the “God & Service Award.” Bob was also a Life Time member of the Rushville Lions Club. While active, he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from Lions International and the Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished Service Award; and was Lion of the Year 1987-88. Bob also received the DeWitt Clinton Masonic Award in 1988. Bob was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Geneva for 53 years. Bob also loved gardening and doing flower arrangements.

Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Hunt; three sons, Dennis (Lisa) Hunt of Springfield, VA, Alan (Mary Ellen) Hunt of Elicott City, MD, and Jeffrey (Gale) Hunt of Stanley; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Katelyn) Hunt, Sean (Laura) Arliss, Tina Hunt, Jessica Hunt, Jennifer Hunt, Ashley Hunt and Zachary (Mandy Strally) Hunt; three great-grandchildren, Zachary J. Hunt, George Arliss and Riley Hunt; God-child, Ruth Dalgetty; brother Donald Hunt; sister-in-law, Betty Hunt; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Bob was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Elwood Hunt.
