Obituary
On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, Rick Phillips, 73, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior. He was known by all as a kind, quiet and patient man.
Richard Clark Phillips was born December 20, 1947 in Canandaigua, NY to Clark and Maxine (Howell) Phillips. Rick grew up in Phelps, NY and graduated from Phelps High School. He then attended RIT’s apprenticeship program for machine and tool design. He spent his work years enjoying the challenges of being a machinist, retiring in 2013.
On July 20, 1968 Rick married Cindy Hemminger of Geneva, NY. They raised three sons, Jonathan Clark (Megan Higley) of Seattle WA, Matthew James (Tina Bath) of Canandaigua NY, Nathan Daniel (Sara Christensen) of Canandaigua NY, and one daughter, Elizabeth Rose Gardner (Marc) of San Antonio, TX.
Rick lived in the home his great grandparents had built in 1895 in Canandaigua, and delighted in restoring and repairing it. Rick’s faith in God sustained him through his challenges with heart disease and kidney failure.
Rick is survived by Cindy, his wife of 53 years; his four children; his nine grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher, Timothy, Julia, and Zachary Phillips, Brielle and Beckett Phillips and Parker and Kate Gardner; his four great-grandchildren, Rylee, Landon, Madigan and Elliana Phillips; Sharon Gray, Rick’s sister of California; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Clark and Maxine Phillips.
Rick’s family was the center of his life and brought him great joy. He will be missed until we meet again in heaven.
Calling hours will be Saturday, November 20th, from 10-noon at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home, 2583 Main Street, Gorham, NY 14461. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
