Obituary

Stanley- Richard Garth Jantzen, age 73, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 27, 2024, and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Honoring Rick’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. A private family burial will be in Little Church Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions in Rick’s name can be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.

Rick was born on May 5, 1951, a son of the late Garth Merkt and Dorothy Faye York Jantzen. He worked for Labelon Corporation for over 25 years as a Pipefitter Steamfitter. He was a very knowledgeable plumber and all around handyman. Rick attended Crosswinds Wesleyan Church. He was a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Seneca and former Fire Commissioner for the Stanley Fire Department.

Rick was a kindhearted, generous man who was always helping others. He enjoyed staying busy keeping up with his various building projects and home repairs for many family and friends. Rick loved traveling with his wife Sandy, reading, particularly books in the  American History genre and  watching NASCAR and Drag Racing, especially John Force.

Rick’s greatest joy was his family and he loved spending time with them as a husband, father and grandfather.

Rick is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sandra Beardsley Jantzen; two children, Michael (Amanda) Jantzen and Laurie (Chris) Jameson; two granddaughters, Vera Jantzen and Elia Ramos; one brother, Robert (Valeri) Jantzen; a sister-in-law, Karen (Jim) McMillan, several nieces and nephews and many cousins including Susan Y. Jones.

Rick was predeceased by his parents; aunts, Virginia York and Margaret Y. (N. Kyle) Hilton; and an uncle, Gordon D. (Phyllis L.) York

Rick was an all around great guy. We went to Stanley school together and played a lot of baseball and basketball. I will always remember playing basketball in Rick's garage. A little cold but that was ok. Rick was a guy that would help a friend and did so several times.
