Obituary

Penn Yan – Richard A. Spike, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 22, 2016.

Friends may call Saturday (March 26th) from 12 Noon to 3 p.m. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. Funeral Services will be at the convenience of the family, with burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New York State Sheriff’s Institute Summer Camp (NYSSI Summer Camp) 27 Elk St., Albany, NY 12207; or to a charity of one’s choice.

Richard was a graphic artist and draftsman, and had worked at Milco Construction as an estimator. He was also a cartoonist, who created the character, Oh-Bear. His hobbies included target shooting and gun collecting. Richard was a talented armorer, who built and repaired long guns.

Richard is survived by one brother, Ron (Sue) Spike; sister-in-law, Rene’ Spike; 6 nieces & nephews, Peter (Kara) Spike, Corrie (Chad) Carter, Jay (Jessie) Spike, Tyler Spike (Richard’s godson), Kaitlyn (Tom) Lutz and Connor Spike; 8 great-nieces and nephews; uncle, Rudy Elwell; two aunts, Jean (Bill) McAvoy and Patricia Elwell; and several cousins.

Richard was predeceased by his father, George Spike, in 1981; his mother, Agnes Spike, in 2000; and his brother, James Spike in 2014.
