Obituary

Vine Valley- Phyllis S. Button, age 88, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at her home.

Friends may call on Friday (Sept. 10) from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 11a.m. at the Middlesex United Methodist Church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Overackers Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Phyllis’s name can be made to the Middlesex United Methodist Church, PO Box 116, Middlesex, NY 14507, Ontario Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva, NY 14456, or to the Middlesex Valley Volunteer Ambulance, 817 Route 245, Middlesex, NY 14507.

Phyllis was born on March 8, 1933, to the late J. Allan and Mildred Kidd Seely. She was a devoted wife, whom Dub depended on to manage his day to day life. She helped her husband with many aspects of running the family farm. She was a much beloved Mother and Grandmother.

Phyllis was a long time member of the Farm Bureau, where she participated in Home Dem.. She was a 4-H Leader, and served on the Yates County 4-H committee. She loved singing, and attended a music camp with Fred Waring. Phyllis sang in several different quartets and trios, and performed solos at various local venues. She ran her own catering business for several years, and many local residents remember the 100’s of cakes she made for special occasions, such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and graduations. Her Christmas cookie trays were legendary.

Phyllis was a member of the Middlesex United Methodist Church where, over the years, she served as Choir Director, Treasurer and Organist. She was also a member of the Fenogowone Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Phyllis is survived by her 6 children, William (Susan) Button, Deb (Ed) Bronson, Edward (Rhonda) Button, Marlene Button, Allan J. (Roxanne) Button and Leon N. Button; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson; sisters-in-law, Anne Arnold, Marilyn Cornish and Sandra Button as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, her husband Leon W. “Dub” Button; her sisters and their husbands, Joyce and Emory Fox and Shirley and Ralph Spike; brothers-in-law, Frank Arnold, Samuel Cornish and Wade R. “Pud” Button; and her parents-in-law, Leon G. and Mabel Button.
