Obituary

Zephyrhills, FL- Patricia A. Elwell, age 88, entered her Savior’s presence, restored and rejoicing, on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Middlesex Baptist Church, P.O. Box 57, Middlesex, NY 14507 or to LeTourneau Christian Conference Center, 4950 County Road 11, Rushville, NY 14544. A private grave site service will be held at a later date.

Pat was born on April 28, 1936 to the late J. Gordon and Elnora (Miller) Oakley. She was a graduate of Middlesex Valley Central School, Class of 1953. In August of 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Elwell and they began farming and raising a family “up on the hill” just outside of Middlesex, NY.

Pat was a full-time mother and homemaker to son, John and daughter Laura. She, later, attended and graduated from Keuka College with a degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career in Middlesex Valley School, and later Marcus Whitman Schools. While teaching she managed to earn her Master’s degree in Reading from Geneseo SUNY. In 1982, Bob and Pat moved to Zephyhills, Florida and she became a Reading Specialist working in several Pasco County schools. She taught for many years until retiring. During her teaching career she enjoyed being a presenter of various workshops for fellow teachers and taught night classes as an adjunct professor at St. Leo College.

Pat had a natural talent for music. She played many instruments, but is most remembered for her piano/organ playing. For most of her life she was the pianist or organist of a church. She also led many church choirs and sang in numerous trios, quartets, and ensembles. Even while in the throes of dementia, she could still play and sing any hymn or song requested without the aid of printed music. Listening and singing along to an old-fashioned hymning or a Gaither Homecoming video was something that brought her much joy.

Pat is survived by one son, John Elwell of Zephyrhills, FL; one daughter, Laura (Robert)Mixner of Bridgeton, NJ; grandchildren, Aimee (Mike)Reagan and Jeremiah (April) Mixner; four great grandchildren, Riley Mixner, Levi Mixner, Samuel Reagan, and Lucas Reagan; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Pat was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Robert (2015); one grandson, Matthew Mixner; her sister, Thelma King; and her brother, Donald Oakley.

Pat loved and was deeply loved by her family and friends.

So sorry to hear of the passing of a great Lady in her own right. A lovely person, so stabling in her community. She was a neighbor and a friend as was her husband. She will be missed. Our prayers and wonderful memories with the family. Bless and peace.
