Obituary

Hall- LaVerne “Vern” Henry Kinney, age 86, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Friends may call Thursday (Jan. 21st) from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A Committal Service will be held Friday (Jan. 22nd) at 11 a.m. at Little Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Rd., Geneva, NY 14456; or the Hall Fire Company, P.O. Box 8, Hall, NY 14463.

Vern was born June 20, 1934 in Clarendon, NY. He was the son of the late William and Emma Miles Kinney. He married Betty Gaylor on Sept. 11, 1954 in St. John’s Lutheran Church. They recently celebrated their 66nd Anniversary.

Vern worked for Seedway in Hall for 52 years, retiring for the third time in May of 2018, at the age of 83. Vern would help anyone. He enjoyed many summers with his family at their cottage on Waneta Lake.

Vern was a member of the Hall Fire Company for over 50 years, and a member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Hall. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Winnek Post #396 in Geneva.

Vern is survived by his wife, Betty; three children, Karen (Alan) Jensen, Donald (Kristina) Kinney and Patricia Pierson; 6 grandchildren, Matthew (Melinda) Jensen, Sarah (Andy) Mussack, Laura (Julia House) Kinney, Edward (Tanya) Kinney, Greg (Sara) Pierson and Emma (Heath) Lincoln; 8 great-grandchildren, Aidan Pierson, Miles Pierson, Lily Lincoln Maxwell Lincoln, Alana Jensen, Everett Jensen, Anna Beth Mussack and Owen Mussack; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Vern was predeceased by his son, James L. Kinney in 2019; his son-in-law, Marty Pierson in 2011; and by his 10 brothers and sisters.

The Kinney family wants to thank Ontario-Yates Hospice for their compassionate and professional help, which made it possible for Vern to be home with his family.
