Obituary

Kevin Desmond Issing of Clark Rd., Gorham, NY, passed away May 1, 2019 at the age of 75, after his battle with cancer.

Friends may call Monday (May 6th) from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A Funeral Service will follow at 4 p.m.

Kevin will be buried at the Bath National Cemetery, with full Military Honors, at the convenience of his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Marti Issing; children, Gretchen and Woody Daugherty and Todd Runestad. He is the loving “Poppy” to Sage, Cheyenne, Dalton, Summer and Cassidy; brother of Barbara Van Riper and Jon and Gail Issing; and uncle to Ned VanRiper, Philip VanRiper, Corey Issing and Heather Wenzel.

Kevin was born in Flushing, NY, on Feb. 21, 1944. He grew up in Port Washington, Long Island. He was accepted to and attended the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in Kings Point, NY. He was drafted and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He remained in the service for a 30 year career in the Navy. Kevin retired from Active Duty in 1987, but continued his service in the Naval Reserves.

Kevin met the love of his life in 1988, and they married in 1992. He and Marti then relocated to Western New York in 1999, where he lived his remaining years.

He loved antique wooden boats and spent much of his time working on, refurbishing, collecting and sailing these vessels. He became an active member of the Wine Country Classic and Antique Boat Club, where he served as First Vice-Commodore. He was also an active member, and served on the Board of Directors, of the Canandaigua Sportsman Club for close to 20 years.

Kevin and Marti enjoyed traveling and wintered in Naples, Florida for 10 years, enjoying their retirement, their friends and family.

Kevin will be missed by those who knew him and loved him. His smile and kindness will be remembered, for the gentleman that he was.

He was a loving Pet Daddy to his two feline girls, Barnie and Precious.
