Obituary

John Frederick Hoffman, age 76, of Williamstown, NJ, died on Friday, May 13, 2022.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside remembrance on September 25 @ 2pm @ Gorham Cemetery, Route 245, Gorham, NY. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of John to the Penn Yan Methodist Church, 166 Main St. Penn Yan, NY 14527 or Yates County Habitat for Humanity, 224 Main Street, Penn Yan, NY 14527.

Husband of 35 years to Edna Mae Hoffman (formerly Phillips). Father of Michael Phillips (Lisa) of Mantua, Daniel Hughes (Kelly) of Clayton, Mark Phillips (Cindy) of Franklinville, and David Hoffman (Franklin) of Asbury Park. Grandfather of Mallory Sharp (Walter), Joshua Phillips, Joseph Phillips, and Samuel Phillips. Great-grandfather of Olivia, Harrison, and Maverick. Brother of Bill Ryan, Norma Hoffman, Gary Hoffman, and the late Mick, Marsha, Patty, Marjorie, Bob, and Rodney. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Son of the late John Herman and Marjorie Elaine (nee Henry) Hoffman.

Born in Geneva, NY and raised in Gorham, NY, John was a resident of Franklinville, NJ from 1962 until 2004 when he returned to NY. He and Edna recently moved back to NJ in 2019 and have been living in Williamstown. John was a 1964 graduate of Delsea Regional High School and worked at DuPont Chemours Chambers Works in Deepwater, NJ beginning at age 18 initially as a lagger (insulation installer), later a brick layer, and finally as a master electrician before retiring in 2004. He proudly served for six years in the N.J. National Guard and was an avid hunter. During his return to NY, John served as chairman of the Township Committee in Yates County. He also utilized his electrical skills to help build many homes for Habitat for Humanity.
