Obituary
Penn Yan- Joan F. Carroll, age 84, died on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018 at Penn Yan Manor.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Shuman Cemetery.

Joan was born Nov. 15, 1933 in Penn Yan, NY. She was the daughter of the late, Joseph and Martha Serefine. Joan was a graduate of Penn Yan Academy. She married Claude S. Carroll and together raised their family on their farm on Voak Rd., where Joan was a busy farmer’s wife.
Joan was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and secretary of it’s WELCA group. Her first job outside her home and farm was tying and picking grapes for local vineyardists. Joan worked in the Marcus Whitman High School cafeteria for many years.
Joan’s hobbies included quilting, arts and crafts and sewing. She enjoyed cooking and canning. Her kitchen was open 24/7. Joan was a soft-hearted animal lover all her life.
Joan is survived by five children, Roger Carroll, Claudia (David Hilton) Clark, David (Michele Conover) Carroll, Patti (Carl Johnson) Phillips and Cindy (Darrin) Hill; 16 grandchildren; Jennifer Davidson, Janice Crawford and Amy Carroll, Daniel Clark and Karice (Jake) Spoor; Zachary Carroll, Angela (Ethan) Sutherland and Malissa Carroll; Kimberly Phillips, Robert Phillips, Joseph Johnson, Bethany Phillips and Rachel Phillips; and Joshua Hill, Kylie Hill and Justin Hill; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine “Sis” (Ron) Ledgerwood; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Donald) Christensen and Jean Carroll; two brothers-in-law, Barry (Pat) Carroll and Roger (Gloria) Carroll; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
