Obituary

Bellona- James L. Payne, Sr., age 76, died on Monday, May 30, 2022.

          A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday (June 2nd) at 4 p.m. at the Penn Yan American Legion Post 355.

          Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 1120 S. Goodman St., Rochester, NY 14620.

          Jim was born August 30, 1945 in Canandaigua, NY. He was the son of the late Robert and Marjorie Payne. Jim graduated from Gorham High School in 1963. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from September, 1965 until August 1968.

On Feb. 16, 1968 he married Emma Stier. They raised their family of 6 in Central and Western New York. Jim’s hobbies were working on cars, following NASCAR, spending time with his grandkids, and taking care of his cats.

          Jim is survived by 6 children, Peter (Amy) Payne, Suzanne (Norman) Payne, Michele Holton, Michael Payne, Leslie (Michael) Gaudio and James L. Payne, Jr.; 21 Grandchildren, Melanie (Kurt Bero) Tomcheck, Mandy Warrichaiet, Sarah (David) Katz, Alexander (Erin Morris) Payne, Stephanie (Benjamin) Bruinix, Kayleigh Payne, Elizabeth Payne, Allison Payne,

Angelica (Thomas) Cornish, Cortney (Ed) McClain, Mikayla (Cam Pate) Holton, Ashley (Dakota Watkins) Holton, Theodore Holton III, Alyssa Wilkins, Damian (Malaya) Wilkins-Payne, Brittany (Jordan Owen) Payne,

Gabriele (Cody DelPapa) Payne, Andrew Payne, TyEthan (Rachael Gucciardo) Payne, Ayden Payne and M.J. Gaudio; 19 Great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Henry (Lorri) Payne; sister, Joyce (Gary) Mott; sister-in-law, Terry Payne; and many nieces,  nephews and cousins.

          Jim was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Emma; two brothers, Robert (Marilyn) Payne and brother, Kenneth Payne; and son-in-law, Theodore Holton II.

          The Payne family wants to thank the staff at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care given to Jim.
