Potter- Gordon Kenneth “Giggs” Best, 74, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016 at his home.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family, with burial in Nettle Valley Cemetery.

Giggs was the son of the late Claude Laverne Best and Cornelia “Cora” Hamm Best. He was an accomplished musician, who played the guitar, mandolin, banjo, piano and trombone. Giggs began playing music with his dad; and later his own family played together in the Best Family Band. He also played with the Crooked Lake Fiddlers. Gordon and Roy Litteer and Roy’s wife played in nursing homes in the area for many years. Giggs also played in the Laurie Jane Band, with his long-time friend, Laurie Jane Knapp, and his daughter, Ronda Miller.

Giggs was a skilled carpenter. He had worked cabinets and construction on the Joseph Smith House, the George Eastman House, the Middlesex Valley School library, and the Canandaigua National Bank. Giggs had worked in maintenance for Marcus Whitman Central School and in construction for Frank Marianacci Construction in Bloomfield.

Giggs was a hard worker who was always fixing things for other people. He and his late wife, Mary Lou, helped many people in the Potter area.

Giggs was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou in 2004. He is survived by five children, Teresa (John) Smith, Marcia (Scott) Chapin, Ronda (Nelson) Miller, Kirk Best and Cory (Donna) Best. Giggs was predeceased by his youngest son, Kyle, shortly after his birth in 1972.

Giggs is survived by 16 grandchildren, Kara (Andrew) Silkiewicz, Andrew Smith, Kristy Smith, Sarah Chapin, Matthew Chapin, Justin Chapin, Joseph (Chazz) Miller, Mary Lou Miller, Benjamin (Brittney) Miller, Brennen Best, Jacob Best, Jeremy Best, Kyle Best, Tyler Best, Ryan Best and Olivia Best. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren; two step-brothers, Joseph (Vicky) Best and Jeff Best; 4 sisters-in-law, Connie Hernandez, Frieda Schwartz, Betty Bailey and Barb Best; one brother-in-law, Ed Schwartz; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Bryan Best.
