Obituary

Gorham – Gary R. Blakesley, 63, passed away July 13, 2016 after a long illness.

Friends may call Saturday (July 16th) from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday (July 17th) at 2 p.m. at the Rushville Congregational Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rushville First Congregational Church, Rushville, NY 14544; the American Lung Association, 1595 Elmwood Ave., Suite B., Rochester, NY 14620; or the Ontario County Humane Society, 2976 Co. Rd. #48, Canandaigua, NY 14424.

Gary was born Jan. 2, 1953 in Canandaigua, NY, to Robert G. and Pauline Day Blakesley. His grandparents were Homer and Lucy Hopkins Blakesley; and Albert and Ida Bowerman Day.

Gary thought family was always first. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and doing crafts. He loved his “Rusty” dog, and family get togethers.

Gary served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1978- 1984. He worked for NYS-DOT for 42 years, like his dad.

Gary is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jane Ellen Dougherty Blakesley; two foster sons, Billy and Matt Dunham of Penn Yan; two brothers, Kirk (Linda) Blakesley of Newark, and Vince (Cyndi) Beebe of Walworth; three sisters, Gina (Joel) Bement of Canandaigua, Dawn (Bruce) Bollinger of Idaho, and Nancy Burd Colf of Newark; mother and father-in-law, Rose Mary (Bob) Heidecker of Grove City, Minnesota; brothers-in-law, Larry (Vicki) Eaves of Clifton Springs and Eric (Sue) Dougherty of Manchester; two sisters-in-law, Ann Dawn of Penn Yan and Beth Frey of Evening Shade, Arkansas; aunt, Viola Blakesley of Canandaigua; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and the extended families and his church family.
