Obituary

Gorham- Frederick B. Thorpe, age 78, passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

A private burial will be held at the Gorham Cemetery.

Fred was born on May 14, 1944, a son of the late Floyd and Corabelle Summerville Thorpe. He was a graduate of Gorham Central School. Fred was employed as Vice President of the Chrisanntha Construction Corp. in Gorham, and was past chief of the Gorham Fire Department.

Fred’s greatest joy was found in helping others, whether it be the countless number of people Fred encountered while employed, or the endless gifts of time and energy he provided his family. His heart was full each and every time he could make a difference for someone. To his family he was and will always be, the ultimate hero. His love of hunting, classic cars, building and woodworking were things he looked forward to each and every day. There was always something to be accomplished.

Fred is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon; daughter, Christine (Paul) Chapman; son, Craig (Jolene) Thorpe; 4 grandchildren, Adam (Rachel Colaneri) Chapman, Jenna (Matthew) Turetsky, Jack Thorpe and Annabelle Weston; his siblings, Janice (Paul) Smith, June (Earl) Pettit and Roger Thorpe; brother-in-law, Richard (Carol) Neufang; sister-in-law, Connie (Dean) Burden; as well as nieces and nephews.

Fred was predeceased by his parents Floyd and Corabelle Thorpe.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Fred’s name to the Gorham Fire Department, 4676 Kearney Rd., Stanley, NY 14561 or the Stanley Hall Gorham Ambulance, P.O. Box 57, Hall, NY 14463.
