Obituary

Phelps/Gorham- Elaine P. Mallaber, 79, died peacefully of leukemia on June 10, 2017 in Hyder Family Hospice House, Dover, NH.

Friends may call Saturday (June 24th) from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham.

A Memorial Service will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elaine was born January 18, 1938 to Frank and Ethel Cripps Pulver in Stanley, NY. She graduated from the Gorham High School in 1956. Elaine was in FHA, Chorus, both Concert and Parade Bands She was in the Reed Corners Grange, as well as active in the Reed Corners Church and the church choir.

Elaine married Carl Mallaber of , NY, on July 6, 1957. Carl was originally from the Gorham area and attended Gorham School, where they both met in Junior High They would have been married 60 years this July 6th.

Elaine started her working career at the Lincoln Rochester Savings Bank in Geneva NY. Elaine’s work responsibilities consisted of maintaining office records, and then computer related office records, for several companies around the Finger Lakes area. From 1982 to 1984 they were both self employed DBA as Computer Portraits by Carl and Elaine. While traveling to colleges, they were offered management position (couples) with 4 different KOA campgrounds. They eventually returned to NY as their mothers had failing health. Elaine worked for Kelly’s Temp, then BOCES, until being hired by Ontario County in the Treasurer’s office and eventually with the Board of Elections. She retired in December 2009 from the Ontario County Board of Elections.

After her husband retired February, 2010, they sold their home in Phelps and moved into their daughter and son-in-law’s in-law full basement apartment in Hampshire. Elaine started volunteering at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in 2011, working in the Employee Health Dept. She had to leave that position in January 2017, due to her health declining.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Carl; daughter, Lynn (Jean) Lavoie of Rochester, NH; granddaughter, Jessica; three step-great-grandchildren, Justin (Emily) Lavoie and Garrett (Dianne) Lavoie; brother-in-law, George Hinchman; sister-in-law, Lisa Pulver; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank E. Pulver and Ethel Cripps Pulver; her son, Carl J. Mallaber III, who passed away at the age of 14 months; her brother, Dale Pulver; and her three sisters, Jane Hinchman, Gail Velte and Louise Miles.
