Obituary

Canandaigua – Dorothy Button Meath Merriman –
Dorothy went home with the angels on Tuesday November 23rd 2021 surrounded by people who loved her dearly.
Calling hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 Friday Dec. 10th at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home at 2583 East Main St. Gorham, NY 14461.
Her Celebration of Life will be at 11am Sat. Dec. 11th at the Middlesex United Methodist Church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

She was born at home in Middlesex, New York to Milford and Leona (Parsons) Button on March 23,1930. Dorothy graduated from Middlesex Valley Central School in 1947. After grade school Dorothy attended the University of Buffalo where she graduated four years later with a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy. After graduating Dorothy worked as a pharmacist until 1970 when she opened Whitson Pharmacy in Phelps, New York. Dorothy owned and operated her pharmacy from 1970 until 2010 when she retired. Dorothy was very devoted to her business and community and was involved in many different organizations through the years.
Dorothy married Edward Meath in 1953 and together they raised three children. Following the death of her husband Dorothy was reintroduced to a long time family friend, Ed Merriman. Ed and Dorothy married on October 14, 2000 and remained married until Eds passing in 2015.
Dorothy was a life time active member of the Middlesex Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Stars. She sat on the board at Rochester Drug Coop. for several years and on the Sauerkraut Festival Committee. She was one of the founding members of The Chamber of Commerce in Phelps, and was involved in many other organizations.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Edward Jr. (Jeanette) Meath of Yuba City, CA, Cindy (Scott) DeCann of Middlesex, Robert (Denise Wobig) Meath of Stanley, Norman (Karen) Merriman of East Aurora, and Melanie (Thomas) Hulton of East Aurora. 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, Brother-in-law Leo Meath , sister-in-law Judith Button and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, both husbands, 3 siblings, Maxine (Robert) Oppelt, Clair Button, Lloyd (Dorothy) Button, brother-in-laws, Matthew, Bernard, James, and Francis Meath, sister-in-laws Pauline Flynn, and Merytl Eames, and granddaughter Deanna Trower.
