Obituary

Canandaigua/Gorham- Charles Richard “Dick” Lightfoote, 95, died Monday, October 24, 2016.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday (Nov. 12th) at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Canandaigua. Burial will be in Gorham Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Light Hill Comfort Care Home, 5160 Parrish St. Ext.; F.F. Thompson Foundation, for M.M. Ewing C.C.C. Living Memorial Fund, 350 Parrish St.; Reed Corners Federated Church, 4030 Rte. 247; or the First Congregational Church, 58 North Main St.; all are Canandaigua, NY 14424.

Dick was born in Geneva, NY, the son of Lynn and Dorothy Kreppeneck Lightfoote. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1938, and married Ruth Goodwin in 1942. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Dick worked with his father at Lightfoote’s Garage in Geneva for several years. He retired from Gleason Works in Rochester in 1982.

Dick attended the First Congregational Church in Canandaigua; and previously attended the Reed Corners Federated Church. He and his wife, Ruth, enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and spending winters in Florida. After retirement he discovered landscape oil painting, and has left his family a legacy of beautiful art. Dick was an avid reader and baseball fan, and produced wonderful vegetable gardens. He and Ruth enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s sports and school activities, and were known by the kids’ teammates and friends as “Grandma and Grandpa Lightfoote.”.

Dick is survived by his son, Charles D. (Nancy) Lightfoote; his daughter, Marilyn (Donald) DeSmith; four grandchildren, Scott (Amanda) Lightfoote, Rachel (Adam) Rogers, Matthew (Michele) DeSmith, and Suzanne (Jeremy) Kierst;
6 great-grandchildren, Morley and Finn Rogers, Morgan and Madelyn DeSmith, and Griffin and Austin Kierst; cousins, Shirley DeCann and Rodney Frarey; and several nieces and nephews.

Dick was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, in 2012; and by his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Eleanor Lightfoote.
