Obituary

Canandaigua- Charles L. Bliven, 81, passed away on July 12, 2018.

Friends may call Monday, July 16, from 6 to 8 pm at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham and Tuesday, July 17, from 1 to 2 pm at the The Salvation Army Canandaigua Corps at 110 Saltonstall Street.

A Funeral service will follow at 2 pm at The Salvation Army.

Burial will be held at the Gorham Cemetery, with Military Honors.

Charles was born in Wellsville, NY, the son of the late LaVerne Cecil Bliven and Gertrude Elizabeth Gayhart Bliven. He was raised on Baker Valley Road in Belmont, NY, and graduated from Belmont Central School. Charles later served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and he was a member of the New York State American Legion.

A lifelong Christian, Charles was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Geneva. Before moving to Canandaigua, he was a member and one-time deacon of First Baptist Church in Belmont, NY, where he lived, worked, and raised his family. He was employed for many years by Worthington Corporation of Wellsville, NY, and he later owned and operated an automobile repair shop. Charles spent the latter portion of his work life as a mechanic and bus driver for ACES at Alfred State College.

In 2008, Charles was predeceased by his first wife of 44 years, Sharon Marie Jeffers Bliven.

Charles is survived by his wife, Barbara Jeanne Bliven; four children, Brenda (Rob) Porter, Tracy (Drew) Brooks, Charles Bliven, Jr., and Kenneth (Ellen) Bliven; eight grandchildren, Hannah (Elijah) Denecke, Mattie (Jonathan) Spenst, and Priscilla Porter; Eleanor, Zachary, and Victoria Brooks; and Jack and Charlotte Bliven; three step-children, Delnore (Michael) Case, Dawn (Roy) Palmer, and Darryl (Lauri) Cline; six step-grandchildren, Jill (Darrell) Whitbeck, Eric (Jessica) Case, Cara (Andrew) Freeman, Adam Hebblethwaite, Keith Cline and Kevin Cline, and Arieanna Palmer; five step-great-grandchildren, Emily and Wyatt Whitbeck, Colton Freeman, Aaden Freeman, and Lexi Case.

Charles is also survived by one sister, Beverly Leilous; one brother, James (Judy) Bliven; sister-in-law, Barbara Bliven; and two brothers-in-law, Marlin (Linda) Jeffers and Mervin (Monica) Jeffers; a close cousin, Leo Converse, and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Charles was pre-deceased by two brothers, Donald Bliven and Raymond Bliven, a sister-in-law, Barbara Bliven, and two brothers-in-law, William Leilous and Marvin Jeffers.
