Obituary

Penn Yan- Brian Michael Laursen, age 53, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.

Friends may call Friday (May 12th) from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A Memorial Service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.  The burial will be in Bellona Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the Penn Yan Fire Department following the burial.

Memorial contributions may be made to either Penn Yan Fire Department, or Penn Yan Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Brian was the son of Jane Ann Laursen and the late Edwin H. Laursen, Sr.

Brian is survived by his mother, Jane Ann Laursen; 1 sister, Elizabeth (Alan) Reed; 3 brothers, Robert (Sherry) Laursen, Edwin H. Laursen, Jr. and Darrin (Margaret) Laursen; several nieces and nephews; uncles, aunts and many cousins.

Brian started volunteering as soon as he was old enough to drive fire trucks and ambulances. He was a dedicated volunteer and began his training with the Dresden Fire Department. He worked hard and put in many volunteer hours just in training, year after year. He was never seen without at least one pager attached to his belt, and when the department tones dropped, he dropped everything to go assist others in need. Brian was also a member of the Penn Yan Area Volunteer Ambulance Corp. Brian exemplified service above self.

Brian’s hobbies included bowling, movies, and driving around town to see who he could socialize with next. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his great nephew and great nieces. His smile, his laugh, his sense of humor, and easy-going nature will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

Brian was a very dear friend of mine. He was always willing to help out any way that he could. After I stepped down from being Secretary of the Yates County Firemen’s Association, Brian gladly took over this position. Brian was always willing to help out any way that he could.

As a nurse in the hospital at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, I came in contact with Beets every day at work. He was one of the most pleasant people I have ever known. With a smile that would never quit. You never saw him with a frown. What a nice guy he was.
I’m so sorry for your loss.

Today we have so many memories that are going to be shared about you. I know from experience you came at a drop of the hat if I needed something, even if it was just to be here to watch Uncle Mike take down a tree because I was too nervous to watch. Making my day stopping by just for a visit and getting me hooked on our favorite wine..seeing you at the Wagner or you zooming around town to deliver pizza. The rides back and forth to Rochester. I pray you are in no pain now and Rest In Peace. You will be missed . Your Smile was contagious , your helping hand always there and a heart of gold always, no matter who it was. I hope people live by your example, that knew you and the friendships you had can only be happy memories.. Love ya.. Aunt Peggy and Uncle Mike

Brian has been a long, long brother in the Fire dept. and a great friend when I was a freshman in high school. He was a senior. We did many trainings as firefighters and you always were a good pump operator and taught others well. RIP Brother.
